Indian Chef in China

That night we decided to find something different for our dinner. We came to know from a friend who has frequented the city about Mamak Restaurant located at Beijing Road.

The Mamak restaurant or rather known as Indian Chef is one of the most popular restaurants among Muslims and Indian cuisine enthusiasts in Guangzhou. The proud owner of the restaurant is a successful Malaysian entrepreneur originating from the state of Kedah.

Due to the high demand, the restaurant has been undergoing a major refurbishment at first and second floor in which they occupy 2 units of the shop lots. Since we came in a big group and most of the tables were fully occupied, we were given a big round table inside an air-conditioned room at the second floor.

We found out that the menu set was quite similar to any other Indian restaurant in Malaysia. The foods, drinks and the taste are merely the same as what we used to have back home. The only difference that they could not afford to change was the food presentation that was adopted from Chinese dining style.
Again, communication was not a major problem in this restaurant since one of the waiter could speak Bahasa Malaysia fluently. I am quite sure that knowing the way the business was run, some of the waiters or waitresses could also able to communicate in English without any problem.

Prior to leaving the restaurant, we were captured by the hospitality of a young girl in a nice outfit standing at the main entrance holding promotion materials while inviting the pedestrians to come over into the restaurant. Shown in the uppermost picture are my lovely wife and the young girl in front of the Indian Chef Restaurant of Guangzhou. Bon Apetite.
Facts and figures:-
  1. Indian Chef is located nearby the infamous shopping street in Guangzhou named Beijing Lu or Beijing Street.
  2. Beijing Lu is the oldest shopping district in Guangzhou. The area is full with shops selling a variety of products such as souvenirs, apparel, sports goods, jewellery, toys, leather goods, shoes, bags, snacks, drinks etc. The place is a centre for the younsters and visitors to meet, shop, window shopping so on and so forth. Being the centre of attraction, the street is fully decorated with neon signs and lanterns which make it more attractive especially during nightime.
